Jack Ransom was a Human Starfleet officer who served as first officer of the USS Cerritos under Captain Carol Freeman in the early 2380s. Born in Tycho City on Luna, he was known for his physical strength, martial-arts interest, and a boisterous personality.
Ransom frequently led away missions and, beneath his "idiot jock" persona, deliberately encouraged junior officers to work together. In 2382, following Freeman's transfer to Starbase 80, he was promoted to captain and given command of the Cerritos.
