Lieutenant Joe Carey was a Starfleet engineer who served as assistant chief engineer aboard the USS Voyager during its seven-year journey home through the Delta Quadrant. After the death of Voyager's chief engineer, Carey briefly served as acting chief before being passed over for the permanent post in favor of former Maquis officer B'Elanna Torres — a rivalry the two eventually reconciled.
A family man who left a wife and two sons on Earth, Carey was known aboard ship for the intricate "ship in a bottle" model of Voyager he was building. He was killed in 2378 during an away mission. Portrayed by Josh Clark, Carey appeared across Star Trek: Voyager. See the Timeline for chronology.
