Landru was a mytho-historical leader of the people of Beta III in the Star Trek universe. A gifted engineer and philosopher, he sought to end war, crime, and disease and to produce what he called "the unity of good" — a world without hate, fear, or conflict.
To that end Landru built and programmed a sophisticated machine that took on his identity and enforced a repressive peace, broken only by the annual "Festival." The cybernetic Landru was deactivated by the crew of the USS Enterprise under Captain James T. Kirk, and the entity was later encountered again when it reasserted control over Betan society. Landru appears in Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: Lower Decks.
