Commander Paul Stamets is an astromycologist and Starfleet officer in Star Trek: Discovery, credited as a co-developer of the experimental spore drive and a pioneer in the study of the mycelial network. To make the drive viable he injected himself with tardigrade DNA and served as its organic navigator, an act that left him existing partially outside the normal flow of time.
Married to Dr. Hugh Culber, Stamets was awarded the Starfleet Medal of Honor for his role in the Federation-Klingon War and later journeyed with Discovery into the 32nd century.
