Ronald "Ron" Tracey was a 23rd century Starfleet captain and the commanding officer of the starship USS Exeter during the late 2260s. Once regarded by James T. Kirk as one of the most experienced captains in Starfleet, Tracey became one of the rare Starfleet officers to turn antagonist.
On the planet Omega IV in 2268, Tracey's landing party contracted a deadly native virus that killed the rest of his crew, while the planet's atmosphere left him immune. Driven to obsession by the belief that the virus held the key to immortality, he violated the Prime Directive by arming the local Kohm faction with phasers and joining their war against the Yangs.
When the Enterprise discovered the Exeter's fate and beamed down, Tracey killed a security officer and took Kirk's landing party captive in an effort to secure more weapons. Dr. McCoy's findings ultimately disproved his immortality theory, and after a trial-by-combat staged among the Yangs, Kirk spared Tracey's life and placed him under arrest. The character, portrayed by Morgan Woodward, appeared in the Star Trek: The Original Series episode "The Omega Glory."
