Dathan was a human male who was the biological father of Rey, the last Jedi of the Skywalker era. Created by the Sith Eternal cult on the hidden world of Exegol, he was a genetic strandcast of the Sith Lord Sheev Palpatine, though he lacked any connection to the Force and was regarded by the Sith as a failure.
Fleeing the Sith Eternal, Dathan and his wife Miramir hid their infant daughter on the distant desert world of Jakku, leaving her in the care of others to keep her beyond Palpatine's reach. Their choice to disappear cost them their lives but shielded Rey from the Sith who sought her lineage.
Dathan's story is told chiefly in the novel Shadow of the Sith and connected to the events of the sequel trilogy. This overview summarizes sourced information; see the Timeline for a chronological account.
