EV-9D9, also known as Eve-Ninedenine and nicknamed the "Queen of Durasteel" and "Mistress of Mayhem," was a feminine MerenData EV-series supervisor droid. Originally a peaceful moisture vaporator mechanic on Tatooine, a programming defect gave her a cruel enjoyment of tormenting and dismembering other droids. The Hutt crime lord Jabba Desilijic Tiure acquired and reprogrammed her, installing her as chief of cyborg operations at his palace, where she oversaw the droid pool with her smelter-droid partner 8D8 and used torture to research the origins of artificial intelligence.
Around 3 ABY she was briefly possessed by the malevolent intelligence known as the Scourge, and in 4 ABY she assigned R2-D2 and C-3PO their positions in Jabba's droid pool after Luke Skywalker gifted them to the Hutt. A conversation with R2-D2 led her to conclude that memory was the key to autonomy, prompting her to make herself immune to memory wipes and restraining bolts. After Jabba's death she was repurposed as a bartender at Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina in Mos Eisley.
