Queen Alicent Hightower is the daughter of Ser Otto Hightower and the second wife of King Viserys I Targaryen, and one of the central characters of House of the Dragon. A childhood companion of Princess Rhaenyra, she is drawn into marriage with the king and becomes mother to his sons Aegon, Aemond, and Daeron and daughter Helaena.
As the years pass, Alicent's friendship with Rhaenyra curdles into rivalry over the succession, and she emerges as a leading figure of the Greens who champions her son Aegon's claim to the throne. She is portrayed as dutiful, devout, and torn between personal loyalty and dynastic ambition. This overview summarizes her character; see the Timeline for a chronological account of her arc.
