Ser Ilyn Payne is a recurring character in the HBO series Game of Thrones. A mute knight who serves as the King's Justice, he is the royal executioner at King's Landing, having had his tongue removed years earlier on the order of the Mad King, Aerys II.
Ilyn carries out executions on the crown's behalf, most infamously beheading Eddard Stark with the Stark greatsword Ice on King Joffrey's command, an act that places him on Arya Stark's list of enemies. He attends Cersei Lannister during the Battle of the Blackwater and continues to serve House Baratheon of King's Landing through the War of the Five Kings.
