Lord Randyll Tarly is a character in Game of Thrones, the stern head of House Tarly and Lord of Horn Hill. A celebrated and ruthless military commander, he is remembered for dealing Robert Baratheon his only battlefield defeat at the Battle of Ashford, and is the estranged father of Samwell Tarly, whom he forced to take the black and join the Night's Watch.
A bannerman of House Tyrell, Randyll ultimately sided with House Lannister during the war for the Iron Throne, tempted by the promise of the Wardenship of the South, and led the sack of Highgarden. When his forces were overrun by Daenerys Targaryen on the Goldroad, he and his son Dickon refused to bend the knee and were executed by dragonfire.
