Farmer Maggot, also called Goodman Maggot, was a hobbit farmer of Bamfurlong in the Marish, in the Eastfarthing of the Shire. Known for his abundant mushrooms and turnips and for being fierce toward trespassers, he kept three dogs named Grip, Fang, and Wolf to chase off intruders.
He gave supper to Frodo Baggins and his companions when they strayed onto his land, warned them of a strange rider seeking 'Baggins,' and drove them by wagon to the Bucklebury Ferry. He was also known to be on good terms with Tom Bombadil. Farmer Maggot appears in Peter Jackson's The Fellowship of the Ring.
