The Great Goblin was a huge Orc chieftain who ruled Goblin-town in the caves beneath the High Pass of the Misty Mountains, preying on travellers who crossed the range. When Thorin and Company were captured and dragged before him, his fury at the sight of the sword Orcrist triggered a violent escape.
He was slain by Gandalf, and his death stirred the Orcs of the Misty Mountains against the Dwarves. In The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey he is a computer-generated character voiced and performed by Barry Humphries.
