Lindir was an Elf of Rivendell, likely a minstrel, who in Tolkien's The Fellowship of the Ring listens to Bilbo's poetry in the Hall of Fire and remarks that mortals all seem alike to the Elves. In Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, played by Bret McKenzie, he appears as Elrond's right hand and helps greet Thorin and Company on their arrival. He is a canonical character of both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
