Lobelia Sackville-Baggins, born a Bracegirdle, was a Hobbit of the Shire, wife of Otho and mother of Lotho. Long known as covetous and grasping, she nursed designs on Bag End for decades and finally acquired it from Frodo Baggins when he pretended to move to Crickhollow.
Late in life Lobelia showed unexpected courage: during the occupation of the Shire she defied Saruman's ruffians with only her umbrella and was imprisoned in the Lockholes at Michel Delving. Freed after the Scouring of the Shire, she was greeted with applause, and, grieving her murdered son Lotho, she gave Bag End back to Frodo and left her fortune to help displaced hobbits.
