Born in Taipei in 1954, Brigitte Lin Ching-Hsia ascended to stardom in the Chinese film industry with her debut in "Chuangwai" in 1972. Renowned for her versatility, she starred in over a hundred films, transitioning from Taiwanese romance dramas to Hong Kong action spectacles. Lin's signature role involved playing transgender characters, such as a tomboy in "Peking Opera Blues" and a castrated swordsman in "Swordsman II" and "III." Her collaborations with director Tsui Hark solidified her status as an icon, though she retired in 1994 to marry businessman Michael Ying and raise a family. A rare cameo in the 1998 film "Bishonen" and an appearance at the 2008 New York Film Festival marked her return to public life.
