Xing Yu rose to prominence through his role as Coolie in Stephen Chow’s Kung Fu Hustle, but his martial arts prowess is rooted in his 10-year apprenticeship at the Shaolin Temple on Mount Song, where he trained under Master De Yang from the age of 12. Now a 32nd generation martial monk, Yu has lent his expertise to several high-profile Asian action films, including Wilson Yip’s Flash Point and Ip Man, alongside Donnie Yen, solidifying his status as a skilled actor and martial artist in contemporary cinema.
