Ezri Dax is a joined Trill and a recurring character in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, introduced in the series' seventh season. Born Ezri Tigan on New Sydney in the Sappora system, she was an assistant ship's counselor in Starfleet when circumstances forced her to become the ninth host of the Dax symbiont, following the death of its previous host, Jadzia Dax.
Assigned to station Deep Space 9 as its counselor with a field promotion to lieutenant junior grade, Ezri struggled to integrate the memories of eight prior lifetimes while forming her own identity. Her arrival tested longstanding relationships with Dax's former associates, most notably Jadzia's widower Worf, and she grew close to Doctor Julian Bashir. During the Dominion War she served aboard the USS Defiant, including at the Second Battle of Chin'toka, and supported the crew through the conflict's final campaigns.
