Joachim was a Human Augment and one of Khan Noonien Singh's most faithful followers, having fled Earth with Khan in 1996. After Khan seized control of the USS Reliant, Joachim served at its helm and weapons and acted as his trusted lieutenant.
Cautious where Khan was consumed by vengeance, Joachim counseled his leader against pursuing revenge on James T. Kirk but deferred to Khan's will.
