Tolaris was a Vulcan crew member of the civilian transport ship Vahklas, one of the V'tosh ka'tur — "Vulcans without logic" — who sought a balance between logic and emotion. Encountered by Enterprise NX-01 in 2151, he had previously taught literature at the Shirkar Academy.
He befriended the science officer T'Pol and encouraged her to reconnect with her emotions, using a mind meld to do so. When she asked him to stop, he refused and forced the meld, an assault that left T'Pol with the neurological condition Pa'nar Syndrome and prompted Captain Jonathan Archer to order the Vulcans off his ship. Tolaris appears in Star Trek: Enterprise.
