Voq was a 23rd century Klingon warrior and one of the most devoted followers of the messianic leader T'Kuvma. Born with albinism, he was cast out of his house and Klingon society and came to call himself "son of none." His unwavering faith led T'Kuvma to name him Torchbearer, entrusting him with lighting the Beacon of Kahless to summon the Great Houses against the expanding United Federation of Planets.
After T'Kuvma was killed during the Battle of the Binary Stars, Voq was left stranded and later marooned by the rival Kol, surviving only through the loyalty of his ally L'Rell. To continue T'Kuvma's cause and hunt his lord's killer, Voq underwent the agonizing choH'a' surgery and assumed the identity of the Starfleet officer Ash Tyler, whose personality ultimately subsumed his own.
Voq was played by Shazad Latif in Star Trek: Discovery. This overview summarizes his onscreen role; see the statements and timeline for detailed appearances and relationships.
