Zhaban was a Romulan male of the late 24th century who, together with his wife Laris, served as housekeeper at Chateau Picard from the 2380s until his death around 2400. Both had once been operatives of the Tal Shiar before leaving that life behind, and Zhaban became a close confidant and advisor to the retired Admiral Jean-Luc Picard.
When the Zhat Vash attacked Chateau Picard, Zhaban demonstrated the combat training of his former career, and it was through him that Picard arranged his first Federation News Network interview since retirement. He was one of the few Romulans to wear a beard and, unlike the Original Series-era Romulans that Laris resembled, bore the prominent brow ridges of the Next Generation era. The character, played by Jamie McShane, appeared in Star Trek: Picard and the tie-in comic Star Trek: Picard - Countdown.
