Finn, formerly designated FN-2187, is a Force-sensitive human male and former First Order stormtrooper who deserted and defected to the Resistance during the war between the two factions. Conscripted and trained from childhood, he was recognized as a capable soldier but lacked the ruthlessness the First Order demanded, and refused to fire on civilians during his first deployment.
After freeing the captured Resistance pilot Poe Dameron—who gave him the name Finn—he fell in with the scavenger Rey and the droid BB-8 and was gradually drawn into the fight against the First Order. Over the course of the conflict he committed fully to the Resistance cause, and by its final campaign he served as one of its generals, leading ground forces in the field.
