Joy was one of five Force Priestesses—alongside Serenity, Anger, Sadness, and Confusion—who sustained their consciousness within the Force after death and dwelt inside the Wellspring of Life at the center of the galaxy. Manifesting as a gray-skinned figure in a black robe and a cheerful white mask, she embodied the emotional aspect of joy and referred to her fellow priestesses as cousins.
During the Clone Wars, the priestesses set Jedi Grand Master Yoda a series of trials to prove he was worthy of learning to manifest in the Force after death. Joy expressed confidence that Yoda would succeed, and after he passed his final test on Moraband, the priestesses revealed that the spirit of Qui-Gon Jinn would teach him the path to immortality.
