The High Sparrow was the leader of the religious movement known as the Sparrows and, subsequently, the High Septon of the Faith of the Seven. A former cobbler who renounced a life of wealth to minister to the poor, he preached equality among all men and denounced the excesses of the nobility; his birth name is never revealed.
In Game of Thrones, he reestablished the Faith Militant, presided over the trials of House Tyrell, subjected Cersei Lannister to a walk of atonement, and gained effective control of King's Landing during the reign of Tommen I Baratheon.
