Severus Snape is a half-blood wizard in the Harry Potter series who serves at various times as Potions Master, Head of Slytherin House, Defence Against the Dark Arts professor and Headmaster of Hogwarts. A childhood friend of Lily Evans, he became a Death Eater before turning against Lord Voldemort and acting as a double agent for the Order of the Phoenix.
His concealed loyalties shaped the course of both wizarding wars, and he was killed at Hogwarts in 1998. He appears in all of the live-action Harry Potter films; his history is documented on the Harry Potter Wiki, and a chronological account is available in the Timeline.
