Why now
Ad overload and bloat/slowness are Fandom's #1 and #2 complaints; OLN monetizes via admesh, so without an explicit discipline it risks recreating the very thing it is displacing.

Set an explicit ad-density / reading-experience standard and a performance budget, and define how they coexist with admesh monetization.

Why this matters

The Fandom audit (Entry 029) puts ads and bloat at the very top of every stakeholder's complaints — and OLN does monetize through admesh, so this is a discipline problem, not a posture we get for free. Open decisions:

  • Reading-experience standard — explicit limits: no autoplay video, no mid-content interstitials, no fake-close / redirect ad patterns; a calm, ad-light default. Possibly a charter-level reader commitment.
  • Performance budget — committed ceilings on page weight, script count, TTFB, and mobile behaviour, treated as a release gate rather than an aspiration.
  • Coexistence with monetization — how the standard bounds admesh density and placement (Entry 005 contributor ad sovereignty; G-016 ad-monetization posture) so revenue never reintroduces the #1 grievance.
