Dal R'El was a male Human augment hybrid of the late 24th century and the self-appointed captain of the USS Protostar. Created through artificial hybrid speciation by the proteges of geneticist Arik Soong, his Human DNA was blended with the recessive traits of 26 other species.
Raised aboard the marauder ship Damsel by DaiMon Nandi and later sold into slavery in the chimerium mines of Tars Lamora, Dal escaped aboard the abandoned Federation starship Protostar. There he befriended Zero, Rok-Tahk, Jankom Pog, Murf, and Gwyndala, and grew from a self-interested con into a genuine leader who learned that a good captain listens to his crew.
After clearing their names before a Starfleet tribunal, Dal and his friends served as warrant officers-in-training under Vice Admiral Kathryn Janeway aboard the USS Voyager-A. He is the central character of Star Trek: Prodigy.
