Arik Soong was a brilliant 22nd-century Human geneticist who believed that Humanity's abandonment of genetic engineering after the Eugenics Wars had been a mistake, and that genetically engineered people need not become tyrants like Khan Noonien Singh.
As senior medical director at Cold Station 12, Soong stole a group of leftover Augment embryos and raised the resulting children on Trialas IV, coming to see himself as their father. Captured and imprisoned, he was recruited by Captain Jonathan Archer in 2154 to help stop his Augments, and ultimately turned against them to prevent a war before being returned to prison, where he redirected his genius toward artificial life.
A descendant of the geneticist Adam Soong, Arik laid the groundwork that his descendant Noonien Soong would later use to create the Soong-type androids, including Data. He appeared in Star Trek: Enterprise, portrayed by Brent Spiner.
