Maurice Picard was a Human man of La Barre, France, on Earth, the husband of Yvette Picard and the father of Robert and Jean-Luc Picard. A traditional vintner who continued the family winemaking business, he distrusted technology and placed great importance on preserving the family estate and its history.
His relationship with his son Jean-Luc grew estranged over the younger Picard's decision to join Starfleet, and Maurice died before the two could reconcile — a loss Jean-Luc regretted throughout his life. It was from Maurice that his sons inherited Shalaft's Syndrome. He appears in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Picard. This overview summarizes his established biography; see the Timeline for chronology.
