Tom Paris is a 24th-century Human Starfleet officer in the Star Trek universe, best known as the flight control officer (helmsman) of the USS Voyager under Captain Kathryn Janeway during the ship's seven-year journey home from the Delta Quadrant.
The son of the prominent Starfleet admiral Owen Paris, Tom was discharged from Starfleet after covering up a fatal piloting error, briefly joined the Maquis, and was imprisoned at the Federation Penal Settlement in New Zealand. Janeway recruited him from prison for a mission to the Badlands, which stranded him aboard Voyager in the Delta Quadrant.
