Sirius Black is a pure-blood wizard in the Wizarding World created by J. K. Rowling, portrayed on screen across the Harry Potter film series. The eldest son of Orion and Walburga Black and the older brother of Regulus Black, he rejected his family's belief in blood purity and was sorted into Gryffindor rather than Slytherin. At Hogwarts he formed lifelong friendships with James Potter, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew, the group known as the Marauders, and later joined the Order of the Phoenix to oppose Lord Voldemort.
Framed by Pettigrew for the betrayal of the Potters and the murder of twelve Muggles, Sirius spent twelve years in Azkaban before becoming the only known person to escape the prison unassisted, aided by his Animagus form of a large black dog. He served as godfather to his best friend's son, Harry Potter. On screen he is killed by his cousin Bellatrix Lestrange during the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, and briefly reappears to Harry through the Resurrection Stone.
