The Dark Wizard is a mysterious fallen member of the Istari in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, one of the five Wizards sent to Middle-earth who ventured east into Rhun. Establishing his seat of power at Caras Gaer and surrounding himself with an order of Acolytes, he seized control over much of Rhun during the Second Age.
In the series he seeks the Stranger, at first believing him to be Sauron returned, and ultimately tries to recruit him with the promise that they might together become Sauron's successors.
