Derek "Hobbie" Klivian was a human male pilot from the planet Ralltiir who served the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War. A gifted flyer since childhood, he disliked his given name and asked to be called by his nickname, Hobbie.
Klivian trained at the elite Skystrike Academy alongside Wedge Antilles, and the two defected from the Empire with the help of the rebel Sabine Wren. Flying with the Phoenix Cell and later Rogue Squadron, he became one of the Alliance's most reliable starfighter pilots and a close friend of Antilles, Luke Skywalker, and Wes Janson. He also helped Biggs Darklighter defect to the rebellion.
During the Battle of Hoth, Klivian flew a T-47 airspeeder against the Empire's advancing walkers. After his snowspeeder was crippled, he chose not to eject and instead crashed it into the head of General Veers's AT-AT, Blizzard 1, sacrificing himself to blunt the Imperial assault and save numerous rebels.
