Mitth'raw'nuruodo, best known by his core name Thrawn, was a Chiss male military officer born around 59 BBY on the planet Rentor in the Unknown Regions. Adopted into the aristocratic Mitth family, he rose through the ranks of the Chiss Ascendancy's Expansionary Defense Fleet, earning renown as a brilliant and ruthless strategist who studied the art, philosophy, and culture of his enemies in order to defeat them.
Entering the service of the Galactic Empire, Thrawn ultimately attained the rank of Grand Admiral and commanded the Seventh Fleet from his flagship, the Star Destroyer Chimaera. He waged a methodical campaign against the rebel cells of the Lothal sector, led by Hera Syndulla, until the Jedi Padawan Ezra Bridger and a flock of purrgil pulled the Chimaera into hyperspace, exiling both Thrawn and Bridger to the distant world of Peridea.
