Padme Amidala Naberrie was a human stateswoman from the planet Naboo who served first as the elected Queen of Naboo and later as the planet's Senator in the Galactic Senate. A committed idealist, she was one of the Galactic Republic's most prominent voices for democracy and the peaceful resolution of the Separatist Crisis in the years leading up to the Clone Wars.
As a young queen, Amidala resisted the Trade Federation's occupation of Naboo and led the operation to liberate her capital, Theed. As a senator she opposed the creation of the Grand Army of the Republic and worked against the growing Separatist movement led by Count Dooku. She was present at the First Battle of Geonosis, the engagement that opened the Clone Wars, and remained an influential diplomat and legislator throughout the conflict.
Amidala secretly married the Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, a union forbidden by the Jedi Order. She was the mother of the twins Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa, whose lives would prove pivotal to the later history of the galaxy. She often employed loyal handmaidens, such as Sabe, as decoys to protect her identity.
