Jan Dodonna was a human male military officer from the planet Commenor, born around 65 BBY. After serving in the navies of both the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars and the early Galactic Empire, he grew disillusioned and defected to the rebellion, commanding the Massassi Group and rising to become a general of the Alliance High Command.
Operating from the Rebel Alliance's hidden fortress on Yavin 4, Dodonna formulated the attack plan that led to the destruction of the first Death Star at the Battle of Yavin. He later gave his life at the Mako-Ta Space Docks, sacrificing his cruiser Republic to shield surviving members of the Alliance High Command so that the Rebellion could fight on.
