Thrór was King under the Mountain and ruler of Erebor, the Lonely Mountain, and King of Durin's Folk. Father of Thráin II and grandfather of Thorin Oakenshield, he presided over Erebor at the height of its wealth — a hoard so vast that, in Peter Jackson's Hobbit films, his gold-lust is blamed for drawing the dragon Smaug, who destroyed the kingdom and drove the Dwarves into exile.
He later led the Dwarves at the Battle of Azanulbizar in their attempt to reclaim Moria, where he was killed and beheaded by the Orc Azog. In The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey he is portrayed by Jeffrey Thomas.
