Óin was a Dwarf of Durin's Folk, the elder brother of Glóin and uncle of Gimli, and a member of Thorin and Company on the Quest of Erebor. A seasoned warrior, he had already fought beside Thorin at the Battle of Azanulbizar before joining the journey to reclaim the Lonely Mountain in TA 2941.
Óin fought in and survived the Battle of Five Armies and afterwards settled in Erebor under King Dáin II Ironfoot. Decades later he accompanied Balin's ill-fated expedition to recolonize Moria, where he met his end when the Watcher in the Water seized him at the West-gate.
In Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy Óin is portrayed by John Callen as the Company's healer, hard of hearing and reliant on an ear trumpet, yet fierce in battle. This overview is licensed CC BY-SA; see the Timeline for chronology.
