Guthláf was a Man of Rohan who served as the banner-bearer of King Théoden. He rode with the King to the relief of Minas Tirith during the War of the Ring, carrying the standard of Rohan into the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, where he was slain.
It was from Guthláf that Théoden took the horn he blew so mightily that it burst as he sounded the charge. Guthláf fell with the banner still in his hand, and was honoured in the Song of the Mounds of Mundburg. He appears among the Rohirrim in Peter Jackson's The Return of the King (2003).
