Denethor II is the twenty-sixth and last Ruling Steward of Gondor in Tolkien's legendarium, portrayed by John Noble in Peter Jackson's film trilogy. A proud and perceptive man in whom the blood of Numenor runs true, he is the father of Boromir and Faramir.
Governing Gondor as the shadow of Mordor lengthens, he is driven toward despair by grief and by his secret use of a palantir, and he perishes during the siege of Minas Tirith.
