Legolas

Legolas was a Sindar Elf of the Third Age, the son of the Elvenking Thranduil and prince of the Woodland Realm of Northern Mirkwood. A master archer with keen sight and hearing, he came to the Council of Elrond as a messenger and volunteered to represent the Elves among the Nine Walkers of the Fellowship of the Ring.

Through the War of the Ring Legolas fought at the Battle of the Hornburg, the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, and the final assault on the Black Gate, and journeyed the Paths of the Dead with Aragorn. He is especially remembered for his deep friendship with the Dwarf Gimli, an unlikely bond that endured beyond the war; the two later sailed together into the West.

Legolas is portrayed by Orlando Bloom across Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy and returns in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and The Battle of the Five Armies. This overview is licensed CC BY-SA; see the Timeline for chronology.
