Beregond, son of Baranor, is a Man of Gondor who serves as a Guard of the Citadel in Minas Tirith and, after the War of the Ring, becomes the first Captain of the White Company guarding Faramir, Prince of Ithilien. He is best known for leaving his post during the Siege of Gondor to rescue Faramir from being burned alive by the maddened Steward Denethor, and he later fights before the Black Gate of Mordor. For breaking the laws of the guard he is judged by King Elessar, who spares him and appoints him to Faramir's service in Ithilien.
