Peregrin Took, known as Pippin, was a Hobbit of the Shire, one of Frodo Baggins's youngest and closest friends and first cousin to Merry Brandybuck. Curious and high-spirited, he joined the Fellowship of the Ring and set out on the quest to destroy the One Ring.
After he and Merry were captured by Uruk-hai and escaped into Fangorn, Pippin's rash look into the palantír of Orthanc drew Sauron's eye and sent him with Gandalf to Minas Tirith, where he became a Guard of the Citadel and helped save Faramir from Denethor's pyre. He marched with the army of the West to the Black Gate, where in the Battle of the Morannon he slew an Olog-hai troll, the first Hobbit ever to do so. He later became the thirty-second Thain of the Shire.
Pippin is portrayed by Billy Boyd throughout Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. This overview is licensed CC BY-SA; see the Timeline for chronology.
